> Location : El Khalifa area, Cairo, 150 meters away from Prince Taz Palace, Old Cairo000-001 is an art project started in Fall 08 by Aalam Wassef, in a side street of Old Cairo, 150 meters away from Prince Taz Palace in Cairo.
Installations are shown to the public on a monthly basis, within the street shops or artisans' workshops (charcoal dealer, ironing man, foul stand, mechanic, carpenter... ).
000-001 pays close attention to local and world news and to the neighborhood's everyday life. It is accessible to the public, 7 days a week.
000-001 has began with a timely opening piece called “Obama”, presented to the public on US election day (November 4th, 2008). The piece was displayed to the public till December 7 th 2008. The piece was displayed in a mechanic's workshop.
Since the project's inception, the studio itself has become a landmark for the neighbourhood
and has attracted many visitors who have taken part in the making of a large set of studio
pieces : sound pieces, videos, production work etc.
On April 16th, the public and the neighbourhood were invited to attend a show called
We will be heroes presenting interior installations and exterior video projections, in
an abandoned space. The making of the show spontaneously involved the entire neighbourhood, placing this art project where it meant to be since it started.
The next piece, "Not in a million years", will be displayed to the public on May 15th 2009.About the artist
Aalam Wassef, 38, is an Egyptian independent artist (installations, new media).
He is based in Cairo in El Khalifa area. To this date, he has taken part in solo and group exhibitions in Europe, the USA and Egypt.

> Où : quartier El Khalifa, le Caire, à 150 mètres du Palais Taz.000-001 est un projet artisitique initié par Aalam Wassef à l'automne 2008, en plein cœur du vieux Caire islamique, à quelques pas du Palais Taz et de la mosquée d'Ibn Touloun.
Dans une ruelle dense d'El Khalifa, l'artiste partage les échoppes des marchands et artisans pour y montrer des installations. Les échoppes sont celles d'un marchand de charbon, d'un repasseur de vêtements, d'un mécanicien etc.
Les pièces présentées dans le cadre du projet 000-001 accompagnent l'actualité internationale, locale, et le quotidien du quartier. Elles sont accessibles au public 7j/7.
000-001 a débuté avec une installation intitulée “Obama”, présentée au public le jour des élections américaines (4 novembre, 2008). Elle fut accessible jusqu'au 7 décembre 2008.
Depuis la mise en place de ce projet , l'atelier lui-même est devenu un lieu de passage
pour nombre de visiteurs et habitants du quartier qui ont pris part à la réalisation d'œuvres d'atelier : pièces sonores, audiovisuelles, assistance à la production d'œuvres de grande taille etc.
Le 16 avril 2009, le public et les habitants du quartier ont été invité à l'exposition
We will be heroes présentant des installtions à l'intérieur de l'atelier et des projections vidéo
en extérieur, dans un terrain vague voisin. La mise en place de l'exposition fût le fruit du travail collectif et spontané d'une trentaine d'habitants du quartier.
La prochaine installation, "Not in a million years", sera présentée au public le 15 mai 2009.À propos de l'artiste
Aalam Wassef, 38 ans, est un artiste égyptien indépendant (installations, nouveaux médias).
Il est installé au Caire dans le quartier d'El Khalifa. À ce jour, il a exposé ses travaux et performances en Europe, aux Etats-Unis et en Egypte.Prix récemment décerné : Ars Electronica, 2008, Hybrid Art (Linz, Autriche)
